Fairfield horseshoe Good Friday 2012

Long weekend ahead and hoped the weather would be kind to us. Living in the lakes does afford you to become a fair weather walker! I detest going for a walk and not being rewarded with a view for my hard work. This was going to be one of those walks it turned out.
When we set off the weather was quite fair as you will see in the pics but it was short lived. Parked at Rydal mount and set off up the hill to start the walk. The first 2 miles were a slog up hill but you do gain height very quickly and with that get an amazing view. A undulating walk to the top and was where we decided to carry on to St Sundays Crag. By this time the cloud had descended and visibility was poor. It was only when we started the descent down the other side of the horseshoe that we came out of the cloud, but the rain came :(.
Having added on another 4 miles in doing St Sundays crag, I was feeling tired and my knees were in agony coming down. My patience was fading quickly and just wanted to be back at the car!! We soon had Ambleside in our sights and the rain had stopped! Climbing over the stiles was hard work after 14 miles walking!
As we got closer to the car started dreaming about beer and food….so decided that on the way home to call into The Watermill Inn to have walkers reward pint of Collie Wobbles. I had in my mind that I wanted pie and had yummy Beef and Ale pie and chips followed by bread and butter pudding. Just want was needed and think did excellent job of replacing calories burnt during the walk!
Home for hot shower and much needed snooze on the sofa!
Was good walk and would like to do again on a fine day to see the views that were shrouded in cloud. 🙂
