The nights are certainly drawing in, so with a window of reasonable weather decided to do Black Fell. The bonus with this walk is, the walkers reward pint would be in one of my favourite pubs the Drunken Duck.
We parked in the NT Tarn Hows carpark. Despite having a full box of brownies there was just the two of us! The weather looked as if it would close in and prayed it would stay at bay till
we had finished.
I had forgotten how lovely Tarn Hows is and had been awhile since walked up here. With the evening light it was stunning.
The path veered off and it was a boggy slog across to the path up to Black Crag. It was a very gentle non taxing ascent and soon the trig point of Black Crag was in sight. For a small hill, you had a 360° view. Being on different summits gives you very different perspectives of the lakes.
We retraced our steps down to the path to Tarn Hows. From here decided to go the other way round the Tarn back to the car. It was getting dark and could feel the threat of rain in the air.
Back to the car and to the pub. The Duck is the home to one of my favourite breweries which is Barngates. A beer bat with Cracker, Brathay Gold and Catnap was a perfect walkers reward.
