I visited the Black Swan in Helmsley about 4 years ago on a Sunday is the new Saturday deal. As I was on the mailing list a deal came through and thought why not.
Helmsley is a chocolate box village situated 23 miles north of York. Last time I was at the hotel, it was having a refurb so was interested to see the improvements.
So we arrived at the hotel and we were in the same room as we had last time. Beautifully refurbished and the bed was now on the opposite wall. As we were on the “Sunday is the new Saturday” deal, there was a bottle of champagne in the room. But before that it was Gin o clock so headed down to the bar.
It’s fair to say I do like Gin, this love has come to me in my thirties!! I like trying new ones though my favourite has to be Hendricks. I tried a “fifty pound” one as in the brand not the cost!
So quick change for dinner and of course guzzled champagne. I had ridiculous heels on that I was glad I was only having to walk downstairs in. What us girls do for fashion!!
So in the deal was a 6 course taster menu including wine!
The good thing about a taster menu is not having to choose and can have everything. Each course beautifully presented and delicious. Though for me there was far too much rhubarb with the froie gras.
Full bellies was time to retreat to the bar for a digestive, coffee and petit fours.
A full Yorkshire breakfast set us up for a day playing tourist in York.
Mondays are so much better when not at work!
Came home the scenic way and couldn’t resist calling into Pateley Bridge to visit Weatherhead butchers. This is the home to the best pork pie in the world FACT. A friend Martin introduced us to them on our Yorkshire 3 peaks walk. Had one and bought more to bring home 🙂
