This year has flown by. I eventually managed to go on the Derwent lake cruise, it was a lovely autumnal Saturday afternoon and my sister came with us. It is nice seeing the mountains I climb from a different prospective. It just so happened to be the Swinside Inn’s Oktoberfest and would have been rude not to call in for a beer!
My friend Gary did his last Wainwright. This was Kirk fell and was s backbreakingly steep as Wainwright described. I nearly wimped out as was not having a good day but I am made of sterner stuff. We carried on and did the Mosedale Horseshoe and was a stunning walk. The views from Pillar were breath taking. We definitely earnt our walkers reward in the pub afterwards.
This was a quiet month in comparison! Had a Sunday night away in Helmsley and explored of York and Harrogate. We stayed at the Black Swan and the food was very good.
I met Phil the founder of Social Hiking as his plus one at the TGO awards. What a lovely man and he has turned me into a geek! I also met Terry Abraham who make the most spectacular films and Mark who is a writer and takes amazing beautiful pictures of mainly Wastwater. Was a good night. My friend Tanya was there and we were gutted to find it was a free bar and we had driven! Schoolgirl error.
I found my running mojo again and entered some races for 2014.
A weekend away with my best friend for over 20 years, Lisa. For my birthday present she had booked a night in Edinburgh with dinner and dancing. We had a fabulous time and no better therapy than spending quality time with your best friend. We realised that in all the time we had known each other that this was the first time we had been away just the two of us. Thanks to Lisa I’ve discovered I like tequila!!
Then Christmas was upon us. I always find Christmas a difficult time. It’s only one day but it seems to magnify things. It highlights people or things missing from your life. It was a nice family day, ate too much. Boxing day headed out into the hills and Gary joined us. My first walk since October and could tell with my lack of fitness. But it was great being out in the hills and burning off the Christmas excesses. Was the perfect chance to use my new pacer poles.
Final walk of the year was up Hartsop Dodd, Little Hart Crag, Red screes and Middle Dodd. Gary and Stu joined us. We had the best of the weather and stunning views. Ending the year on 122 Wainwrights done with 92 to go. So another year comes to an end, lots of new adventures planned for 2014. People say that time goes quicker the older you get…..this is very true!!
