After a wet day, the evening turned out to be dry and sunny. So thought would do one of the smaller hills in the Far Eastern fells – Troutbeck tongue after work. Being in the hills when everyone has finished with them for the day is very nice. Not a soul about. Just a couple of mountain bikers heading towards High Street.
We parked in the layby just past the Queens Head in Troutbeck. It’s such sad news about the recent fire. It is all boarded up and huge scaffold encase it as they rebuild.
It is a very easy walk, the path runs along over a small bridge, then a cut up through the field and the tongue comes into view. It’s a gentle ascent through ferns nothing too taxing. Gorgeous views all around.
When the top comes into view, it is not the actual spot height summit. Previous misses of proper Wainwright summits have made me double check with GPS that we are actually on the top. Fantastic views down to Windermere. As with other smaller summits size doesn’t matter.
A few photos and back the way we came to end up at the car. A very nice 4 miles walk and brings the summit total to 180. 34 to go…..
