Back in January I was having a squiffy Monday dinner out with one of my oldest friend Cate. We were talking about my fabulist and she suggested doing London in style. So we set a date for end of November.
Hotel booked and train tickets and the day arrived. We met Cate at Lancaster and off we went.
The great thing with the west coast line is it gets you to London in 2:49 hours.
After we had dropped our bags off at the hotel it was off to the city. First stop was Fortnum and Masons. I just love this store it’s so pretty. I couldn’t resist a new mug and some gold leaf marmalade.
All this shopping was hardwork time for refreshments. Cate had said she wanted to go to the Ritz for cocktails but it was packed. The doorman suggested Donovans at Browns hotel which was a 5 minute walk away. What a place, the barman Giovani guessed which cocktails we wanted before we opened our mouths.
Delicious cocktails drunk and was off for a wander. It was extremely busy as someone would’ve thought it was Christmas!!
Even managed a quick selfie with a very famous bear.
A lovely dinner at The Cinnamon club in Westminster ended the day perfectly.
Up early to head to the Shard for Breakfast. It was a pity the weather was not better but at least we got a view.
Breakfast was utterly delicious, I had the Lobster egg benedict. Perfect when washed down with a breakfast martini.
The Aqua Shard restaurant is a very lovely place and after breakfast moved through to the bar to sample another cocktail. Cocktails were going to be the theme of the day!
The weather was wet and horrid so felt very decadent hailing a black cab to take us to the Ritz. Turns out was cheaper than taxis we get in Cumbria! Cate and I giggled as the cab door opened the doorman at The Ritz appeared and said “ladies we don’t want you getting wet” as he walked us to the door. The Ritz is such a sumptuous building and was less busy in the bar.
A round of Ritz 100’s ordered and Jake my youngest stepson came to join us.
Time was getting on so a quick revisit to Browns before heading across London to get our train home.
We said our goodbyes to Jake and a swift half at the legendary Euston Tap before heading home.
