Lucy was one on Christmas Eve and it’s nearly a year since we bought her home. It seems like 2 seconds ago she was only able to fit in the palm of our hands. I say the same about my stepsons, obviously not fitting in the palm of my hand!
I never really was a dog person, I tolerated dogs of people I liked but didn’t get the whole dog thing. Until now. Lucy bound into our lives but has added so much joy. Seeing her grow into such a beautiful dog makes my heart melt. My camera roll is full of pictures of her. People have commented that my social media feed now features Lucy rather than my selfies.
I never got how people were with dogs. How can you let them lick you or eat from your hand. But now I find myself doing all those things I thought were disgusting.
Things I have learnt over the past year being a dog owner:
It takes me ages to get anywhere when walking Lucy as people stop to say how beautiful she is.
The waggy tail always makes me smile and the look of complete love when she sees you in the morning. She greets you like you’ve been gone forever.
I have rediscovered my running mojo. Lucy is the best running buddy. My split times have gone out the window due to toilet stops. Lucy not me.
I can waste hours just staring at her and stroking her velvet soft ears.
She can be fast asleep but I get off the sofa, head to the kitchen and she’s there. Thinking she’s getting a treat.
The drool and look of being hard done by whenever I have food.
Slobbery dog kisses are awesome.
She makes you laugh. Whether she accidentally does a backward roll off the sofa or gives you the beady eye as you scoff down any food without offering her any.
A dog makes any day better #FACT if you’re feeling crap she’s always been pleased to see you.
When Dave snores I want to kill him but somehow when Lucy snores I think it’s adorable.
Why did I not get a dog years ago!!
