Despite living up north for nearly 30 years, I have hardly visited the western Lake District. Mainly due to the time it takes to get there.Continue reading “A tick off the fabulist – visit St Bees”
Way back when on my 40 at 40 list, I put going on the longest Zipwire on my to do list. At the time it was in SW Scotland only to be superseded a couple of weeks after completion by Zipworld in Wales. https://adventuresofcumbrianblondie.co.uk/2013/03/29/completing-number-40-on-my-40-at-40-list-go-on-a-very-long-zip-wire/Continue reading “A tick of the fabulist – go in the longest fastest Zipwire”
I had always wanted to do the Carlisle to Settle/Settle to Carlisle railway journey. I love travelling by train, watching the world go by as I sit taking it all in. Even better if it is a steam train. In 2015 when Storm Desmond hit Cumbria, there was a landslide near Armathwaite which shut the line. There was of course a bus replacement service but it is not quite the same. The line was repaired and fully opened in 2017.Continue reading “A tick off the fabulist – Settle to Carlisle train journey”
When I worked in a pub it was when I was 15, plus it was on the other side of the bar, being a waitress. As a real ale drinker I thought I should learn how to pour the perfect pint. Continue reading “A tick of the fabulist – learn to pull a pint”
People may call me vain for putting this on my list but it’s my list at the end of the day. Despite being a fan of the selfie and posting hundreds of pictures to my online albums on Facebook, I hate having my picture taken as I am so incredibly critical of how I look. Gone are the days when we had to patiently wait for the results of photos. In the instant age of gratification, we can inspect instantly and delete the less than flattering pictures.Continue reading “A tick off the fabulist – do a photshoot”
Praise be to the YouTube tutorial. Whenever I have tried to apply eye shadow in the past, my eyelids have looked like I have been gang banged by crayola. When I was 40, I was in Manchester on one of my birthday celebrations, I ventured onto a beauty stand in Debenhams, I add to the least scariest beauty consultant. The girl was lovely and applied nice muted shades of eyeshadow, which of course I was seduced into purchasing.Continue reading “A tick off the fabulist – learn to apply eye shadow without looking like a tranny”
As with a lot of things on my fabulist, people like to help as they did with this one. My old friend Kate was reading my list and said Chris will be able to help you out with this one. Continue reading “A tick off the fabulist – learn to play poker”
I can’t remember how this ended up on my list. I had always been fascinated with how this was done. Simon, a guy I have known for years has started up a bar tending service. http://www.theoccasionalbartender.co.uk/ Whilst looking on his twitter account, I saw a video showing him sabering a champagne cork and contacted him to say I need to be able to do this.Continue reading “A tick off the fabulist – sabering champagne cork “
When strictly is on, I always watch mesmerised wishing that I could do that. I never was allowed dance lessons as a child which is why it ended up on my list.
I was lucky to find a dance school in Kendal, after not being able to do it before Christmas due to illness. I missed out on learning the cha cha but the next one was Samba and Quickstep. After posting I was doing this on Facebook, my neighbour Karen said I’d love to do that, do it was my reply. Continue reading “A tick of the fabulist – learn ballroom”
Firewalking is the act of walking barefoot over a bed of hot embers or stones. I can’t actually remember how this ended up on my fabulist.
After a google search, I found there was a UK firewalk, there was a list of charity events which you could register an interest in. Luckily there was one just outside Preston. An email and a phone call, firewalk was booked with a donation of £30. We were out with our friend Justin and he had a milestone birthday coming up, which turned out to be the day we were planning to do the firewalk. I said I know what you can do “come firewalking with us”. After thinking for a moment said why the hell not. He did say I always wonder what you will suggest next!
